The automobile is such an important innovation as it allowed humans to independently and rapidly travel great distances. The automobile revolutionized travel, labor, and recreation forever.

Invention of the Automobile

Throughout history, mankind has continued to find ways to travel and move in ways previously thought impossible. Perhaps no invention in history has had such an impact on how individual human lives are changed than the automobile, or car. The automobile has provided humans with the incredible ability to travel great distances without the burden of sacrificing too much time or depending on a fixed schedule.

Although the combustion engine was connected to a cart in the late 1800s, it was not until Henry Ford’s assembly line style of production that cars were able to be acquired on a massive scale. Between 1908 to 1927, the Ford Motor Company produced over 15 million units of their iconic Model T automobile. The assembly line technology quickly became the staple approach for the global automobile market and soon enough, the world began to experience the Automobile Revolution.

The growth of the automobile permanently changed American jobs, recreation, and lifestyle. People were no longer tied or trapped to their hometown and with a car, they were able to access previously unobtainable opportunities and adventures. By the end of the 1920s, there were more than 23 million registered drivers in the United States.

The automobile lifted the restrictions of space and time that were defined for thousands of years. Job opportunities, vacations, interpersonal connections, and sense of opportunity were possible thanks to remarkable and ever-improving cars.
